My Question

INSIDE RELATIONSHIPS Mother of the groom Article By: Jennifer Gruden You may know the saying, "the mother of the groom is only supposed to show up, shut up, and wear beige," but is that really true? The traditional advice for the mother of the groom is – forgive the language – to “show up, shut up, and wear beige.” While there's some good food for thought in that little adage, the truth is that you are embarking on a whole new relationship with your soon to be daughter-in-law. Here's how to make the most of the wedding to create a long-lasting relationship (the article continues, but not on this blog at this time!) It is going to be different this time around to have child #2 - a son - getting married and I am very much looking forward to being a MOG. Been there, done that in being a MOB. So, here's my burning question for the day: Would this be an appropriate beige dress? The dress was found in the Chicago Chic exhibit at the Chicago History Museum. It was designed by Worth and Boberg in 1861 and worn by a certain Mrs. McCormick. Only a few alterations would need to be made. And it is a lovely beige! So? What do you think?

I Love it Deb! But I'm afraid that you might steal the show from Kari! :) You'll make an EXCELLENT Mother of the Groom! No doubt about it!

My point is this: the dress is over-the-top beige. It's silly to think that the MOG has to be pegged this way!

Kari is going to be an absolutely gorgeous bride and it doesn't matter a whit what I wear!!

Well, I too have been MOG - twice! While I was included in some of the planning, not so much in making selections, just in hearing what was going on. I did go with both future DILs for wedding dress searches. As well as flower consultations. I had to wait until the MOB picked the color and length of the dresses. Thankfully, I could go with pink. Having "been there, done that" I will happily share with you my experience and answer any questions. Most of all, have fun and enjoy!!!

I think you and I can both fit in it....lots of room in the bottom!!! Any by the way, I have heard and have seen how creative you are, so we need your input!

You crack me up! I know there are stereotypes out there, but my mother-in-law hardly fits them, so I say go with your gut on this one! No one in their right mind would want you to show up and shut up. :)

Been a MOG. And you may remember that I didn't wear beige. Hopefully J&K will want your creative input, but ?? This mother-in-law thing can be a tough new role. It has been for me. Pray alot and go with the flow.
