Skinny Pants in Sweden

Skip right over this one if you are not interested in the widths of pant legs.  But, this has been on my mind and I must get it out of my system.  If you come to this country and want to not stick out like a sore thumb, you must get yourself a pair of skinny-leg pants.  It doesn't matter if you are male or female, youngish or oldish, thinnish or not-thinnish, this is what you wear in Sweden.  Leggings will do, as will black tights.  One could even mask a wide-legged pair of pants by covering up with tall boots.

The first morning as I looked out our hotel window to the street below, it seemed to be a sea of people wearing peg-legged skinny pants. What to do? What to do. I had some thread in my emergency sewing kit....should I stitch up my jeans to not look like flares? The black pants and blue tweed pants I packed were hopeless causes. Do I go out to buy a new pair of pants?

Then it was pointed out to me that I should just be who I am. Though I might look like my ancestors coming from Sweden in coloration and frame, it is okay for me to wear pants I have chosen before I arrived here whether I fit in with the crowd or not. My ancestors wore dark printed dresses, practical for the farming life and an occasional get-together with other farm families way back when. They wouldn't have given a thought if they fit in with their clothing. I am humbled.

Today we went to a Swedish church service and the passage that was read was from Matthew 6:25.
If you look it up, the last part is, "Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?"  Humbled.  And I will not be getting out my needle and thread!
