Come On In!

One of my favorite early December activities is to go on a House Walk in our community sponsored as a fund raiser through the local Catholic parish. Several houses are on the walk - you actually need to drive to get to them all - and you get to peek inside designated houses as (almost) an invited guest. I love it! And no hostess gift is required, thank you very much. Here are my observations about the nature of Christmas decorating in our town this year: 1. Glittery is IN. 2. Words are IN. Hanging as ornaments, in picture frames and swooped as swags in windows. Examples J-O-Y, Believe, and Peace. 3. Leaving cookies, gingerbread houses, candies and treats in general on kitchen counters is IN. However, eating them is OUT. 4. Cone trees displayed on mantles, hallway tables and chests of drawers are IN. All the better if they are glittery trees! As far as I know Cone Heads are OUT. 5. Using boughs on stairway railings and atop kitchen cupboards is IN. It doesn't matter if they are faux or real. 6. Luminaries lining the driveway are OUT. 7. Christmas trees made of feathers in white are especially IN. 8. Silver foil trees like we had in the 60's are IN. Rotating color wheels in red, green and blue shining on said trees appear to be OUT - maybe because they are extinct? 9. Color is IN! We saw oranges, hot pinks, purples, blues, yellows, and of course, the tradional reds and greens. 10. Using the bathroom facilities is probably OUT. But, they were certainly decorated nicely. My favorite? The silver ornament balls floating in the clawed bathtub. Followed by a close second: the huge poinsettia plants in the shower stall. Hmm...that gives me an idea...

I love the IN's and OUT's - all duly noted. I must proceed with my own holiday decorating - plants in showers, ornaments in tubs? hmmmmmm

Sandi, You will make it tasteful, no doubt!

Ha! Kass, I really should have lifted up those toilet lids to see if they were "decorated", too. You're funny!

I would give my left arm for that beautiful door. Well, maybe not, but I would give something of high value cause I'm sure it was worth a pretty penny.

Christmas trees in feathers of white? I wish you had a picture of that one!
