It's a Beautiful Day in Their Neighborhood

And where is their neighborhood? It's a hop, skip and a jump from here...well, specifically about three hours away, near Galena, Illinois! Wes and I had a wonderful weekend visiting my sister and her husband. A highlight of our trip was exploring this old, historic city and taking a trolley tour (why can't I think about trollies without thinking about the beloved Mr. Rogers?) We saw Ulysses S. Grant's home, noted all the different types of architecture, ate great food (I tried my first fried green tomatoes and they were heavenly) and even went to a one-man show performed by Mark Twain impersonator, Jim Post. Great times were had by all! **NOTE: I aplogize for any vertigo you might experience viewing the buildings in this slide show. Pics were quickly snapped while in a moving trolley.

Galena looks like a GREAT place to get away to! I love all those historic buildings...and the trolley! What is their library like? Seems like a dream-village...

Samara, you are so right about me and my sister. We have been given a great gift to have each other!

Sarah, these slides represented only a samll portion of the buildings/architecture there! The old high school sits atop a hill and has incredible "bones" - now turned into luxury condos. The library is a beautiful white pillared- Greek Revival style building. The post office has 8 fireplaces. Many, many churches, too.

Galena is not to be missed!

Deb, the inflatable raft at the lake was AWESOME! Seriously the kids loved it and I even enjoyed being able to sit in it and relax without having to do the whole swimming thing. She bought hers at Sam's Club I believe for less than $100.

Great pictures of your trip. I am so proud of your slide show talent, too.

I cracked up with the picture of you and Diann by the sign. That looked like it might have been a giggle moment between the two of you!
